About Orthodontics

Orthodontics is the specialized field of dentistry that helps achieve correctly aligned teeth, ideal jaw function and an aesthetically pleasing smile. No two cases are alike, and orthodontists like Dr. Sol and Dr. Brian are certified to assess and treat patients with orthodontic issues. Today, orthodontic treatment is more comfortable, convenient and affordable than ever before, and an attractive smile is just one of the many benefits. Orthodontic treatment makes teeth easier to clean, more resistant to gum disease and can also provide improved self-confidence.

Your First Visit

We look forward to meeting you on your first visit to our office. During that time, Dr. Sol or Dr. Brian will review your medical/dental history, examine your mouth for any potential orthodontic issues and discuss how you would benefit from orthodontic treatment. You’ll leave our introductory meeting with a written summary of what we’ve discussed.  Once you are ready to proceed, we will schedule an appointment for diagnostic records.

Diagnostic Records

The best diagnosis, and resulting treatment plan and outcomes, can’t be achieved by simply looking in your mouth. It requires Dr. Sol’s and Dr. Brian’s expert assessment with a variety of diagnostic tools, all in consideration of your unique needs. Our team uses the latest and most accurate diagnostic tools, including digital photographs, x-rays and plaster moulds of your teeth.  This information is used to develop a custom treatment plan for each patient. Throughout the diagnostic process, we take the time to answer your questions, and will show you how we expect your treatment to progress. These records are also helpful in tracking the progress of treatment as the teeth move under orthodontic care.

Consultation

After Dr. Sol and Dr. Brian have evaluated your records, we discuss your treatment with you in detail. We will work together to build a treatment plan that takes into consideration your particular needs, such as when to start, length of treatment and cost for your particular case.

Regular appointments

The appointment at which you get your appliance (braces, expanders, etc.) usually takes 1-2 hours. You will then see us at regular intervals 4 to 8 weeks apart for an adjustment, which takes 20 to 40 minutes. Patients are seen by appointment only. We make every effort to be on time for our patients and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us.  If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us immediately, and we will reschedule your appointment.

Emergency appointments

If you have an orthodontic emergency, such as a loose or broken brace or appliance, please call our office in advance of your next visit. We will be happy to see you as soon as possible, in advance of your next regular appointment. If the brace or appliance can wait until your next scheduled appointment for adjustment, please inform us anyway as we will need to allot extra time for your next visit to make the repairs.

How much will it cost?

Every patient’s needs are unique, and we will determine your fee according to the type of treatment and the estimated duration of treatment. Generally, the fee for orthodontic service is spread out over the estimated treatment period. You will be able to discuss fees and payment options before treatment begins. It is our goal to provide you with the most efficient and convenient payment schedule, and we will work with you to accommodate your needs.  We work hard to make orthodontics affordable. For your convenience we accept payment by Visa, Mastercard, debit, cheque, or cash. Financial arrangements can be made to extend your payments over a period of months, interest-free. If full payment is made at the onset of treatment, we will offer a fee discount.

Insurance

Many insurance plans cover a percentage of orthodontic treatment. We will provide you with the necessary forms you will need to submit to your insurance provider for a reimbursement of the payments you have made to our office.
